I don’t make New Year’s resolutions, but I have been thinking a lot lately about what I hope to accomplish and experience in 2011. I’ve come to terms with the fact that for someone who doesn’t have cable or even the basic local channels, I watch a lot of television. Netflix has become my crutch and I’m not being as creative as I used to be. So, in an effort to create a healthy environment for my head, I’ll be limiting my access to the internet and Netflix this year. I’m also starting a new project for myself called Girl A Day. I’ll be drawing one girl a day for as long as I find enjoyment in doing so. I don’t want this project to feel like work, so I’m not committing to doing it for any certain length of time, but I will try my very hardest to draw at least once a day. Hopefully this little project will get that creativity of mine flowing again!
I’m not stipulating any rules for myself for this project and I’m not going to take myself too seriously either. I want this little exercise to be an honest exploration of my abilities––hopefully, it will also serve as documentation of the developement of my abilities. Did you know it takes 10,000 hours of practice to master any given skill? I’d better sharpen those pencils!
